Episode 6 takes us back to where it all began – back home. To the World Championships on home soil – a moment the entire Thömus maxon team has been working towards.
A course that demands everything: physically, technically and mentally – with steep climbs, fast descents and high intensity. Vital Albin describes it as typically Swiss: ‘steep, honest and demanding.’ The mood in the team is focused, buoyed by months of work and the final week of fine-tuning in the Engadin. But world championships write their own stories.
The new episode shows how the home World Championships become the scene of great emotions.
Mathias Flückiger loses a medal in the final sprint – seconds that hurt. ‘That was hard to accept. Maybe the pressure was too much. I couldn't ride as freely as I usually do.’ Vital Albin achieves a strong top 20 finish: ‘I had hoped for more, but it's a solid result. Now it's time to keep working.’ For Lars Forster, the cross-country race did not go as planned – yet the support within the team remains palpable.
And then there is Alessandra Keller – the crowning glory of a home World Championships.
Two medals at the World Championships. ‘I had to suffer terribly, especially in the last two laps,’ she says. ‘But the fans carried me – it was a sea of red, Thömus jerseys and Swiss crosses everywhere. That makes me incredibly proud.’ She emphasises how much the team has grown: ‘We no longer work on the basics, but on the finer details – and it's precisely those few per cent that make the difference.’
Episode 6 – World Championships – is the emotional finale of a long journey.
A home race full of passion, pride and solidarity – and the climax of Race Back Home: the series that shows what it means to return to Swiss soil, give your all and make history together.
A story about what remains when the adrenaline wears off: gratitude, trust – and the certainty of having given your all at home.
